JUNE 26, 2003
1. This is the Southeastern Turkey press summary
for June 26, 2003. Please note that Turkish

POLITICAL, SECURITY, HUMAN RIGHTS
2. Evrensel, / Government officials charged a
14 year old boy from Hakkari for writing
"Biji Serok Apo ("Long Live Apo")on the
snow. The security forces first questioned
4 children and kept them at the police
station overnight. The 14 year old was
found responsible for the action. His case
will be ruled in Diyarbakir State Security
Court.
3. Turkiye, / During operations in Siirt,
security forces killed two PKK/KADEK
terrorists. Security forces continue their
operations in the area.
ECONOMIC
4. Hurriyet, / The chief of the Incirlik Shop
Keepers Association discussed shopkeepers'
pleasure about the new role of Incirlik.
"During the Iraq war we had some trouble,
but now the news of Incirlik base to be
used for humanitarian aid for Iraqis made
us all very happy", he said.
5. Turkiye, / Batman announced year 2003 as
"Water Year" and appropriated 2,5 trillion TL to
solve the water problem in the villages. Water
pipelines will soon be installed in villages.
