US embassy cable - 03ABUJA942

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (SBU) Although Abuja is the capital city, Nigeria's OSAC
Country Council is located in Lagos, the country's main
commercial center. Therefore, RSO Lagos will convene the
requisite meeting and report results septel. However, due to
significant private sector participation in the week-long
events surrounding the May 29, 2003 Presidential inauguration,
Consulate Lagos may not be able to convene an OSAC country
council prior to the Department's deadline.

2. (SBU) In addition to convening the OSAC Country Council at
the earliest opportunity, the Ambassador will host a meeting
to discuss security issues with the Managing Directors of the
major American oil sector companies in the very near future.
This meeting in Lagos will include representatives from the
following Embassy and Consulate sections: POL, RSO, RAO, DAO,
ECON, and CONS. Results will be reported septel.
