S E C R E T ANKARA 002710 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 04/25/2013 TAGS: MARR, MOPS, PARM, PREL, TU, IZ SUBJECT: FLEEING IRAQI OFFICIALS LIST: TURKS SAY NO SAFEHAVEN HERE REF: STATE 102827 1. (U) Classified by Political-Military Counselor Stuart Brown. Reasons 1.5 (b) and (d). 2. (S) On April 24, Polmiloff delivered ref demarche to MFA/Middle East Department Ferhat Alkan. Alkan promised to deliver it at once to MFA DG for Middle East Affairs Tahsin Burcuoglu, who had been notified by DCM that the list would be forthcoming. Alkan also said that the list would be passed to FM Gul as well as other appropriate GOT Ministries. Alkan said that he would convey USG urgency over this matter and added that his government shares our concern that such individuals not be provided safehaven, asylum or assistance of any kind.
