C O N F I D E N T I A L ANKARA 001970 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 03/26/2013 TAGS: PARM, PREL, IZ, TU SUBJECT: GOT RESPONSE ON ENCOURAGING POSITIVE STATEMENTS AT THE UNSC OPEN SESSION ON IRAQ REF: SECSTATE 77740 Classified by Polcouns John Kunstadter; reasons 1.5 b and d. (C) Poloff March 26 provided Reftel themes to Serra Erarslan, head of the MFA Iraq and Gulf Countries Department, and urged the GOT to instruct its UN mission to use these themes as a basis for participation in the UNSC open session. Erarslan said she did not know whether the MFA will instruct its Permrep to speak at the session, but said if the GOT representative speaks it will be in support of the Coalition effort in Iraq.
