US embassy cable - 03ANKARA1701

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

(C) On March 18 polmiloff met with MFA Iraq Desk officer
Ferhat Alkan and delivered Ref A points. Alkan readily
agreed that a UNGA emergency special session on Iraq would
serve only to intensify and highlight the divisions within
the UN. He thought that it had the potential to damage the
institution further. Though he was unable to answer what
Turkey's position would be, he committed to passing our
request up his chain of command expeditiously.
