UNCLAS PRETORIA 004817 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: SENV, AORC, EAGR, ETRD, PREL, SA SUBJECT: DEMARCHE REQUEST - METHYL BROMIDE EXEMPTION APPROVAL AT MONTREAL PROTOCOL MEETING OF THE PARTIES - SOUTH AFRICAN RESPONSE REF: STATE 218123 1. Post has delivered the subject demarche to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Agriculture (DAg), and Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT). DAg has not responded. The DFA advises that the knowledgeable people in DFA are currently in Montreal at the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. The DFA suggests the U.S delegation contact the South African delegation at that meeting. 2. DEAT has informed us that the person responsible for this issue is currently on TDY outside the country.
