1. (C) On December 11, Pol-MilOff delivered reftel A demarche
on the Cooperative Airspace Initiative (CAI) to MFA/NATO
officer Oya Ergin emphasizing the importance to the NRC of
succeeding in this effort collectively. Ergin noted the MFA
had been discussing this issue with the Turkish General Staff
and understood the importance of the initiative. However,
the GOT was waiting to see how other Allies supported the CAI
before determining Turkish support.
2. (U) Ergin also received reftel B demarche on NATO's
long-term role in the Balkans promising to share the
information with all appropriate officials in the GOT.
