US embassy cable - 05THEHAGUE3236

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. On November 23, POLCOUNS delivered reftel points on next
steps for the Foundation for the Future to Joke Buringa
(Deputy Head, Gulf States Division, North Africa/Middle East
Department, MFA). In reviewing reftel timeline, POLCOUNS
noted the upcoming meeting in Amman and the December 5
deadline for submitting nominations for Chairman of the
Foundation For the Future Board.

2. POLCOUNS followed up with Willem Beelarts (Head,
Israel/Palestinian Division, North Africa/Middle East
Department, MFA) on December 2. Beelarts confirmed that the
Dutch planned to participate in the Amman meeting but did not
provide details. He said the Dutch did not intend to
nominate anyone for the Chair position, but did expect to
present nominations for the board later. Beelarts noted that
the MFA was looking at a number of individuals from the Dutch
NGO community who might be suitable board members.
