UNCLAS LAGOS 001785 SIPDIS DS/IP/AF, DS/ICI/PII, DS/IP/SPC/MSG, MED, AF/W, AF/EX E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: AMED, ASEC, CASC, NI SUBJECT: EAC LAGOS CONVENED TO DISCUSS AVIAN BIRD FLU PRECAUTIONS REF: STATE 178699 1. (SBU) Embassy Lagos Emergency Action Committee (EAC) convened on November 18, 2005 to discuss preparations in the event of an Avian influenza virus outbreak. Present at the meeting was the CG, RSO, MGMT, POL, ECON, CLO, RAO, FBI, CONS, GSO, DAO, MSG, and RMO. 2. (U) MED discussed the need for preparations in the event of an Avian flu outbreak in Nigeria; subsequent discussion explored the effect of the outbreak on transportation, delivery of services, as well as the ability for employees to travel. The EAC will divide into sub-committees to begin planning on housing, security, medical, etc. in contemplation of a possible outbreak. The EAC will reconvene next week to further discuss these issues and create trip wires with effective contingency preparations. Post planning is being done in coordination with Embassy Abuja. 3.
