US embassy cable - 05LAGOS1769

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (C) FBI explosives experts completed their on-site
support and departed on November 10. Preliminary test
results from swab samples from the subject fragment are
expected this week from the FBI laboratory, and will be
reported to GON crash investigators to assist with their
ongoing investigation.

2. (C) Fingerprint experts completed their work over the
weekend, and departed on November 13. Fingerprint analysis
produced no matches for Defense Attache passenger on the
flight, but the fingerprints were to be compared to other
available databases in case any remains could be positively
identified.

3. (C) Forensics recovery of additional human remains at the
crash site has been concluded. DNA samples forwarded to the
Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) are being analyzed
and results are expected by November 23.

4. (C) Excavation at the crash site has been completed, and
GON personnel are interviewing remaining witnesses and
analyzing recovered documentation. Debris from the crash
site has been transported to the hangar, and GON
investigators will attempt to identify it, continuing the two
dimensional "reconstruction" begun by the National
Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators, who have
departed for a short period. NTSB investigators are expected
to resume on-site assistance to the GON team in approximately
ten days.
