US embassy cable - 05TEGUCIGALPA2319

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (SBU) PolOff delivered reftel demarche on UN Third
Committee Resolutions to Irene Cardona, Director of
Multilateral Policy at the Foreign Ministry, on November 8.
PolOff followed up November 10 with Cardona, who said that
she had sent a memo to Foreign Minister Mario Fortin and
would follow-up with him. PolOff followed-up again with
Cardona on November 14 and she indicated that GOH would
support the resolutions on Iran and North Korea but that FM
Fortin had not taken any decision on the remaining countries.
PolOff also emphasized that GOH oppose any "no action"
motion on the Iran resolution.

3. (SBU) PolChief spoke the evening of November 14 with Vice
Foreign Minister Juan Antonio Lara Bueso FM on the same
issue. The Vice FM reiterated the GOH position in support of
the Iran and North Korea resolutions and stated that the GOH,
as in the past, continued to opposed no action motions on
principle. He also reiterated the GOH had not yet taken a
position on the other country-specific resolutions.

4. (SBU) Comment: Post notes that the GOH's abstention in
2004 on the Iran resolution was due to miscommunication
between the MFA and the Honduran Mission to the UN according
to Fortin, back when he was Vice FM, and that at the time
Fortin assured PolOff that the mistake would not happen
again. End Comment.
