US embassy cable - 05GEORGETOWN1211

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

SUBJECT: Embassy Georgetown International Education Week
Activities

1. On November 14 and November 15, 2005 Consular Officers
and Post's Education Advisor spoke with students at three
Georgetown high schools about the benefits of study in the
U.S. and the general qualifications for a student visa. The
Education Advisor presented information on the variety of
educational choices the U.S. offers, admission requirements
and financial aid opportunities. Officers from the Consular
Section spoke about visa requirements for students and used
the CA produced presentation titled, "Attracting
International Students and the Changing U.S. Visa Process."
There was a question and answer session after each
presentation that allowed students to ask questions about
the U.S. higher education system and visa requirements.

2. This activity addressed Post's goal of consular outreach
by providing accurate visa information to students who are
considering study in the U.S. It addressed the Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs' goal of highlighting the
benefits of international study and promoting understanding
of U.S. educational opportunities by emphasizing the various
programs of study in the U.S.
