C O N F I D E N T I A L DUBLIN 001385 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 11/10/2015 TAGS: PREL, PTER, MASS, PARM, IS, CO, EI, CI3 SUBJECT: UN ASKS IRISH TO TRAIN PALESTINIAN POLICE; IRISH POLICE TO RETURN TO COLOMBIA Classified By: Ambassador James C. (C) In a pull-aside discussion November 10, DoJ Secretary General Sean Aylward told the ambassador that the UN has approached the GOI about sending Irish police to train Palestinian police. Aylward asked for U.S. views. The ambassador encouraged him to consider seriously the proposal. We would appreciate USG views on how hard to push the Irish. 2. (C) Aylward also said that Gardai (Irish police) plan a return trip to Colombia to further investigate the case of the Colombia 3, IRA members convicted of helping to train the FARC. KENNY
