Embassy o/a October 3 delivered a diplomatic note requesting the support of the Dominican Republic for Thomas Buergenthal's re-election to the International Court of Justice. On November 2, MFA deputy director for UN affairs Rhadys Abreu de Polanco informed us that, of the three candidates for the position, the Dominican national group in the Permanent Court of Arbitration had recommended supporting the candidates from Spain and the United States (Buergenthal). The staff has forwarded this recommendation to the top level of the MFA; she promised to check and inform us of any decision. KUBISKE
