US embassy cable - 05SANTODOMINGO4890

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. Embassy o/a October 3 delivered a diplomatic note
requesting the support of the Dominican Republic for Thomas
Buergenthal's re-election to the International Court of
Justice. On November 2, MFA deputy director for UN affairs
Rhadys Abreu de Polanco informed us that, of the three
candidates for the position, the Dominican national group in
the Permanent Court of Arbitration had recommended supporting
the candidates from Spain and the United States
(Buergenthal). The staff has forwarded this recommendation
to the top level of the MFA; she promised to check and inform
us of any decision.
