Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS ANKARA 006531 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, PTER, SY, TU, SYRIA SUBJECT: TURKEY/SYRIA -- TURKISH MFA STATEMENT ON UNSC RESOLUTION REF: ANKARA 06370 The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement October 31 with regard to the UNSC resolution requiring Syrian cooperation with the inquiry into the Hariri assassination. Informal embassy translation follows. Begin text: Following issuance of the report prepared by the UN International Independent Investigation Commission, which was established with the purpose of investigating the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on October 31, 2005. The resolution urges Syria to conduct closer and more concrete cooperation with the Commission in the next phase of the investigation. We desire that Syria take this call into consideration and increase its cooperation with the Commission. As is known, the mandate of the UN International Independent Investigation Commission was extended until December 15, 2005. Turkey attaches importance to the Commission -- to which it has contributed by sending an expert -- completing its investigation within this period. End text of MFA statement. MCELDOWNEY
