SUBJECT: KAZAKHSTAN CONSIDERING AID TO PAKISTAN

1. (C) Ambassador delivered reftel demarches in an October 27
meeting with Kazakhstani FM Tokayev. Tokayev indicated that
the GOK was considering providing a field hospital in the
context of the Geneva conference (Ref B). He promised to
raise the issue of providing spare parts and/or maintenance
crews for Mi-17 helicopters (Ref C) with PM Akhmetov. Post
understands that Mi-17s are the primary utility helicopter
for the MOD and several other Kazakhstani ministries.
2. (SBU) Kazakhstan delivered 37 tons of humanitarian aid to
Pakistan on October 18, including 19 tons of flour, over 9
tons of canned barley porridge, a ton of soap, 520 sets of
bedding, and twenty 20-bed tents.
