Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS TEGUCIGALPA 002209 SIPDIS FOR WHA/PD, IIP/T/ES, IIP/G/WHA, OES, AND WHA/CEN EMBASSIES FOR PAOS, IOS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: OIIP, PREL, PGOV, SENV, KPAO, HO SUBJECT: MEDIA REACTION ON HURRICANE KATRINA AND GLOBAL WARMING, OCTOBER 27, 2005 1. On 10/13 the San Pedro Sula-based liberal daily "Tiempo" ran an op-ed by Mimi Diaz Lozano entitled "What to do?" "Many who suffered the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina are putting themselves at risk returning to New Orleans in search of their belongings after the terrible nightmare that they endured. But it isn't easy to get rid of all the emotional baggage and memory of death. It isn't easy to look with indifference President Bush's obscure attitude, who was criticized over his lack of diligence and haste to deal properly with the circumstances. His indifference has been repeatedly mentioned in the mass media as `terrorist,' the same word with which he justifies the massacres in Iraq. The tragedy has affected poor countries as ours that are suffering the consequences of high gas prices." "But nothing said here should be strange to you. It is known that those who handle politics in the U.S. are cynical and disrespectful of human rights. Let's remember: for them there are no friends, only interests." "We must mention that global warming is one of the harmful effects of pollution and one of its main causes is the high concentration of gases in the atmosphere." "The greenhouse effect is produced by an increase of carbon dioxide (CO2), mainly caused by burning fuels. This puts to the atmosphere enormous quantities of gas; these fuels have been the primary energy source for agriculture and industrial exploitation. Mankind continues to seek for its own destruction and death. We cannot live without the idea of money, which generates wealth and strengthen power. From this perspective it is not difficult to understand the U.S. attitude in refusing to sign the Rio de Janiero and Kyoto Protocols. Gas emission and global warming doesn't matter. No. those aren't important against the gigantic industries with the powerful God of money that maintain the government in its imperialist place. So its disgusting democracy must maintains itself as is, even if the world explodes. Even if world explodes the multimillionaires of the world will be able to escape to spacial platforms on the Moon or Mars or far away where the money, money, money has converted this paradise that God gave us."
