(U) Post recently received two diplomatic notes in Arabic from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting USG support for membership in the International Maritime Organization (IMO), "Category C," as well as our support for re-election of Egypt's representative on the Anti-Torture Commission. Post welcomes guidance on responding to these notes. 2. (U) Embassy translation of MFA Diplomatic Note dated October 12, 2005: Begin Text: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends its regards to embassies of the IMO Member States and would like to inform them that Egypt has submitted a request to be nominated for membership of the IMO Category C in the elections to take place during the 24th Round of the IMO meeting during the period November 21 - December 2, 2005. In light of the cooperative relations between Egypt and the IMO Member States, we would appreciate the support of your government to the Egyptian request. End text. 3. (U) Embassy translation of MFA Diplomatic Note dated October 11, 2005: Begin text: The MFA sends its regards to embassies of the Member States on the Anti-Torture Commission accredited to Egypt and would like to inform you that the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to re-nominate Ambassador Sayyed Qassem Al-Masry for a new tenure of membership on the Anti-Torture Commission during the elections scheduled to take place on November 30, 2005 within the framework of the 10th meeting of the Member States that are parties to the Anti-Torture Agreement.
