SUBJECT: GREECE PLEDGES 1.5 MILLION FOR FOUNDATION
FOR THE FUTURE

1. (C) Per reftel, Greek Foreign Minister Molyviatis
informed Ambassador on October 25 that Greece will pledge 1.5
million USD for the Foundation for the Future. Molyviatis
will provide Embassy with a letter confirming Greece's pledge
as soon as possible. Looking ahead to the November 11-12
Forum for the Future meeting in Bahrain, Molyviatis confirmed
that, if invited, he would attend (Greek PM Karamanlis is
traveling to Japan at that time, but Molyviatis said his
priority was BMENA).
2. (C) ACTION REQUEST: Embassy will forward to Washington
Greek letter of intent as soon as it is received. We
understand that at preparatory meetings in London (Ref B),
Forum for the Future reps agreed to invite to Bahrain all
countries who pledged minimum contributions of one million
USD for the Foundation. We request Washington authorization
to invite Greek Foreign Minister Molyviatis to the Bahrain
meeting. END ACTION REQUEST.
