Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS MANAMA 001502 SIPDIS PARIS PLEASE PASS US/UNESCO E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: ETRD, PREL, SCUL, BA, UNESCO SUBJECT: URGENT UNESCO DEMARCHE/SEC. GUTIERREZ LETTER REF: STATE 189518 Ambassador delivered reftel letter from Secretary Gutierrez on the UNESCO Cultural Diversity Convention to Minister of Industry and Commerce Hassan Fakhro during a meeting on October 17. Fakhro said that Bahrain was sympathetic to our viewpoint, but that in the face of such a vast majority in favor of the resolution, it would be politically very difficult for Bahrain to stand against the GCC/Arab League consensus. But, he added, if a certain number of countries moved toward postponement, Bahrain would have no objection to supporting that position. MONROE
