C O N F I D E N T I A L MANAMA 001501 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 10/17/2015 TAGS: PREL, PGOV, BA, IZ SUBJECT: BAHRAINI CABINET HAILS IRAQ REFERENDUM Classified By: Ambassador William T. Monroe, reasons 1.4 (b) and (d). 1. (U) In a show of support to the Iraqi people October 16, the Bahraini Cabinet welcomed the Iraqi referendum on the draft constitution. Addressing members of the Cabinet, Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa hailed the participation of the Iraqi people and said that the poll was an important step toward stability, security and prosperity in Iraq. 2. (C) In a conversation with the Ambassador October 17, Minister of Defense Shaikh Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said, "Some wanted to wait to see the results of the referendum before commenting. We, however, wanted to get out in front on this and show support." MONROE
