C O N F I D E N T I A L KUWAIT 004405 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 10/13/2015 TAGS: PGOV, PREL, IZ, KU SUBJECT: DEMARCHE TO KUWAIT ON IRAQ CONSTITUTION VOTE REF: STATE 188987 Classified By: Ambasador Richard LeBaron for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) 1, (C) Upon receipt of demarche, Ambassador spoke with Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs Khalid Jarallah to emphasize SIPDIS the need for GOK public statements in support of the vote on Saturday. Jarallah said that the compromises reached in the last few days were "very important and positive." He talked about timing of statements, agreeing with the Ambassador that the GOK should do something Thursday. Ambassador also noted the importance of the GOK reaching out privately to important leaders in Iraq. 2. (C) Post will also engage the local media directly Thursday to make the key points on the compromise and the upcoming vote. LEBARON
