UNCLAS GENEVA 002389 SIPDIS SENSITIVE DEPT FOR DS/IP/EUR, DS/DSS/PII E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: ASEC, SZ, Trade SUBJECT: PLANNED DEMONSTRATION IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - 15 OCT 2005 1. (SBU) On 15 Oct 2005, Attac, a global coalition of non-governmental organizations, stated they would be rallying approximately 5,000 people in Geneva to protest the World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial meeting scheduled for December in Hong Kong. The protest is set to take place in front of the WTO building in Geneva O/A 1400. 2. (SBU) The organizers claim the event is to protest what they see as an unfair deal for developing countries. Representatives from the organization "Focus on Global South" claim they will have approximately 8,000 possible protesters during the December WTO meeting in Hong Kong. Moley
