UNCLAS ASUNCION 001223 SIPDIS STATE FOR NP, T, AND L E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KNNP, MNUC, PARM, PREL, KTIA, PHSA, EWWT, PA SUBJECT: PARAGUAY SUPPORTS SUA NONPROLIFERATION AMENDMENTS REF: STATE 163044 On 9/27, the MFA's Director of International Organizations told Polcouns that Paraguay supported the amendments sought by the U.S. to the UN Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA). The MFA was in the process of forming a delegation to participate in the next round of negotiations scheduled for October planning first to appeal to the equivalent of Paraguay's Coast Guard, which forms a part of the Paraguayan Navy, to identify representatives. If none were available, the MFA expected the head of Paraguay's delegation in London to represent Paraguay at the upcoming meeting. KEANE
