The Italian military screens the criminal and security background of all persons who join the armed forces. Service members selected as candidates to U.S. sponsored training programs undergo a rigorous selection process. There is no credible evidence that the Italian military establishment has committed human rights violations. 2. Since the Italian military has such an effective screening program in place, mission considers the fact that a member of the Italian armed forces has been selected for U.S. sponsored training as sufficient to guarantee compliance with U.S. screening requirements. 3. There is no reason to expect any change in this situation. Unless advised otherwise, please assume that the Italian screening process remains sufficient to ensure compliance with U.S. requirements.
