UNCLAS ANKARA 005539 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KDEM, KPAO, PREL, KMPI, TU, BMENA SUBJECT: G-8 BMENA: TURKISH PARTICIPATION IN OCTOBER 1-3 DEMOCRACY ASSISTANCE DIALOGUE MEETING IN RABAT REF: STATE 171708 1. MFA Policy Planning Directorate Department Head Levent Gumrukcu told Poloff September 21 that MFA Director General for Policy Planning Ambassador Mehmet Akat would lead the Turkish delegation to Rabat. MFA Coordinator for BMENA Omur Orhun has a meeting in Cairo at that time and will not be able to attend. The Turkish delegation will also include Gumrukcu and MFA BMENA desk officer Berk Ece. Gumrukcu added that Turkish NGO TESEV, instrumental in arranging Turkey's DAD meeting on women's issues in Istanbul in June, will also be represented. 2. Gumrukcu said the GOT was eager to make "conceptual and financial" contributions to the Foundation for the Future. Poloff recommended the Turkish delegation discuss details with the US delegation in Rabat. MCELDOWNEY
