Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

C O N F I D E N T I A L AMMAN 007288 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 09/12/2015 TAGS: KNNP, MNUC, PARM, PREL, KTIA, PHSA, EWWT, JO SUBJECT: JORDAN - SUPPORT FOR SUA AMENDMENTS DEMARCHE DELIVERED REF: STATE 163044 Classified By: DCM Daniel Rubinstein for Reasons 1.4(b), (d) (C) On September 8, poloff delivered reftel talking points to Dr. Khaled Al Takhayneh in the Department of International Relations and Organizations at the Jordanian Foreign Ministry. Takhayneh responded that the GOJ would likely support amending the UN convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA) but was unsure how the provisions for boarding ships would be viewed by Jordanians with maritime interests and the Jordanian parliament. His concern was focused on the ship-boarding provision as he feared the language might be difficult for some Jordanians to accept. Takhayneh thought the GOJ position on amending the SUA would not be formulated until the conference to adopt the new provisions is held in late October. HALE
