JETER; REASONS 1.5 (B) AND (D). 1. (C) During an October 9 conversation on Cote d'Voire (REF A), Ambassador Jeter reminded ECOWAS ExecSec Chambas of our request for a public statement clarifying ECOWAS' position on allegations in the draft military assessment team's report on Liberia. More specifically, he asked ECOWAS to confirm publicly that it did not endorse the false rumors contained in the draft report alleging U.S. and UK support to the LURD (REF B). Chambas thanked Ambassador Jeter for the reminder and said he still planned to attend to our request. JETER
