Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

SUBJECT: BAHRAIN: URGENT DEMARCHE ON THE CAIRO FOREIGN
MINISTERS' MEETING
REF: A. STATE 163365
B. MANAMA 1267
C. STATE 159137
Classified by Ambassador William T. Monroe for reasons 1.4
(b) and (d).
(C) The Ambassador September 4 delivered reftel demarche to
Foreign Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa in a
meeting covering several subjects. Shaikh Mohammed promised
to review the points closely. He stated that Bahrain had no
problem with Magen David Adom membership in the International
Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and supported the Geneva
consultations. On Syria, the ForMin said his staff had
briefed him on the U.S. demarche on isolating Syria at the
UNGA (Refs B and C). Bahrain's position on this, he said, is
that if Syria asks, Bahrain will agree to a meeting, but will
convey the U.S. points (on actions Syria should take on Iraq,
Lebanon, Palestinian rejectionists, and human rights).
Shaikh Mohammed's comments on Iraq are covered septel.
