(A) STATE 163366 B. (B) STATE 163279 C. (C) VIENNA 2955 1. Ambassador contacted Austrian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Johannes Kyrle (in the absence of the Foreign Minister) on September 4 to convey ref (a) and (b) needs list and secretary's statement on Hurricane Katrina. On behalf of the Minister, Kyrle undertook to work on supplying U.S. needs immediately. 2. Kyrle reiterated Austrian offers of specific water purification, decontamination and urban search and rescue assistance (ref c). The Austrian military has worked 24-7 through the weekend to plan deployments of these specific capabilities, if U.S. emergency services believe there is a need for them. 3. Embassy officials will meet with Austrian government officials on September 5 to review the state of play on these offers. Brown
