US embassy cable - 05KINGSTON2069

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

SUBJECT: LETTER TO PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH FROM ACTING
PRIME MINISTER OF JAMAICA, DR. THE HONORABLE PETER PHILLIPS

1. The Embassy received a Diplomatic Note from Acting Prime
Minister of Jamaica, Dr. The Honorable Peter Phillips,
requesting the following condolence message be forwarded to
His Excellency George W. Bush, President of the United States.

2. Begin text:
The Government and People of Jamaica are deeply saddened by
the loss of life and extensive damage to property and
infrastructure resulting from the passage of Hurricane
Katrina that has affected the southern region of the United
States of America, and which continues to seriously affect
weather patterns in the U.S.A.

Given Jamaica's own experience, we are painfully aware of the
trauma and untold suffering caused by the hurricane. We hope
that the floodwaters occasioned thereby will recede and allow
life to return to normalcy within the shortest possible time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the affected
regions of the United States in the aftermath of this natural
disaster. End text.
