UNCLAS VILNIUS 000911 SIPDIS STATE FOR EUR/NB E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, ECON, AEMR, ASEC, CASC, MARR, AMGT, US, LH, HT41 SUBJECT: TFUS01: PRESIDENT ADAMKUS EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES, OFFERS ASSISTANCE President Valdas Adamkus called the Ambassador this afternoon to offer his personal condolences and those of the Lithuanian people for the tragic consequences of Hurricane Katrina. The President said that, as a good friend of America and a member of the international community, Lithuania will offer whatever assistance is appropriate. He told the Ambassador that Lithuania will stand with America just as America stood by Lithuania. The President requested that we communicate to the GOL any contributions that Lithuania can make.
