UNESCO CANDIDATURES

Post delivered Ref A demarche regarding the US candidacy for
the WHO executive board via diplomatic note dated June 20.
During poloffs' most recent follow-up on August 26, MFA
Multilateral Affairs Director Ignacio Ruiz suggested a
possible link between Colombian support for the US candidate
for the WHO executive board and US support for the GOC
candidate for the UNESCO Executive Council, Ref B. Ruiz
acknowledged US policy neither to reveal nor trade votes, but
stressed the special importance of the UNESCO candidature to
the GOC.
