US embassy cable - 05KUWAIT3743

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

Classified By: Political Chief Natalie E. Brown for reasons 1.4 (b), (c
), and (d)

1. (S/NF) For the past two days, the local press has
reported on the front pages that Jordanian authorities were
searching for Syrian, Egyptian, and Iraqi terrorists who
reportedly fled the scene of the August 19 Aqaba attack in a
Kuwaiti-licensed car. We have been advised by DATT and SIMO
that nothing provided by their liaison sources in Amman or
Kuwait indicates involvement of a Kuwaiti-licensed car, or
any other connection to Kuwait.

2. (U) In an August 20 cable to Jordanian Prime Minsiter
Adnan Badran, Prime Minister Shaykh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber
condemned the Aqaba attack and offered Kuwaiti condolences
and support to the families of the dead and injured. Shaykh
Sabah also offered support for any security measures that
Jordan may take to "guarantee its stability."
