2. (S) On August 15, the UAE's State Security Directorate
passed A/Legatt a request for further information on ref b
demarche on Al-Mazroui Medical and Chemical Supplies (AMMCS).
An informal translation of the document text follows.
3. (S) Begin Text:
In reference to the meeting between the Director of Economic
Affairs at the American Embassy and his Excellency the
Director of Organizations and Conferences Department at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 6, 2005. The Director
of Economic Affairs at the American Embassy advised that the
Syrian Scientific Studies Institute obtained dual-use
biological equipment from Al-Mazru'i (PH) Company for Medical
and Chemical Supplies in the country. We kindly request that
you provide us with information, and material evidence, to
prove and confirm that the above-mentioned company committed
the things that you indicated. Also please provide us with
names of individuals involved, including workers and the
people in charge of this matter in the company.

4. (S/NF) Comment and Action Request: It is unclear whether
SSD was aware of this issue prior to the demarche, or whether
they have, in fact, begun an investigation. Embassy requests
that Department provide whatever additional information it is
able to provide consistent with SIMO,s obligation to protect
