UNCLAS PRAGUE 001179 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KISL, KPAO, PGOV, PREL, EZ, Guantanamo SUBJECT: Ambassador's Op-Ed on Gitmo Detainees REF: (A) Secstate 142348 (B) Prague 1162 The August 11 edition of the Czech daily Hospodarske Noviny (circ. 63,000, elite readership), roughly the Czech equivalent of the Wall Street Journal, carried an opinion piece by Ambassador Cabaniss entitled "Criticized, Guantanamo Helps Save Lives." Drawn from Ref A points, and approved by Department, the article notes the importance of credible intelligence in preventing the second round of London bombings and highlights the large amount of actionable intelligence obtained from detainees at Guantanamo.
