UNCLAS BANGKOK 004608 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PTER, TH, UNGA, Demarche SUBJECT: THAILAND: RESPONSE TO CCIT DEMARCHE REF: STATE 127261 1. (U) Poloffs delivered reftel demarche to Komgrit Varakamin, Director of the Peace, Security and Disarmament Division. Komgrit would not offer a specific commitment of Thai support for the CCIT Convention. However, he did say that it was Thailand's policy to comply with all international terrorist conventions and related UN resolutions. Komgrit suggested that the U.S. delegation in New York consult directly with the Thai delegation regarding Thai support for the CCIT Convention. (NOTE: Komgrit said he expected Thailand to become party to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons in the very near future. This will be the sixth UN CT Convention that Thailand has become party to. END NOTE) BOYCE
