US embassy cable - 05BANGKOK4608

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (U) Poloffs delivered reftel demarche to Komgrit
Varakamin, Director of the Peace, Security and Disarmament
Division. Komgrit would not offer a specific commitment of
Thai support for the CCIT Convention. However, he did say
that it was Thailand's policy to comply with all
international terrorist conventions and related UN
resolutions. Komgrit suggested that the U.S. delegation in
New York consult directly with the Thai delegation regarding
Thai support for the CCIT Convention. (NOTE: Komgrit said he
expected Thailand to become party to the Convention on the
Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally
Protected Persons in the very near future. This will be the
sixth UN CT Convention that Thailand has become party to. END
NOTE)
