US embassy cable - 05SANAA1892

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

(S) 1. In response to reftel, Embassy EAC convened on
7/9/05 to review local security conditions in light of the
recent bombings in London. EAC was chaired by CDA and
included representatives from POLE, POLM, RSO, CONS, PD, MGT,
DAO, OMC, FPD, LEGATT, USAID, and CCE-Y.

(S) 2. EAC members agreed that the recent bombings in
London do not appear to have any immediate security
implications for Americans in Yemen, nor does there appear to
be any connection between the events in London and Yemen.
EAC members agreed to follow up with local contacts regarding
this matter. Committee members further agreed that no change
in security posture is warranted at this time, but that it
remains important to remind all Americans to exercise
vigilance in maintaining good personal security practices.

(S) 3. Specifically reviewing two upcoming events, a
national day reception on July 10 and a PD reception on July
13, EAC members decided that no specific security concerns
existed that would warrant cancellation or rescheduling of
either event. Apart from a discussion of possible reactions
to a recently-imposed national sales tax, EAC members had no
new topics of concern this week. EAC members will continue
to monitor the local threat environment closely for any
changes.
