UNCLAS PANAMA 001463 SIPDIS DEPARTMENT FOR WHA/CEN E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PGOV, PREL, PM, PUAS, POLITICS & FOREIGN POLICY SUBJECT: PANAMA REQUESTS USG SUPPORT CANDIDACY TO POSTAL UNION OF THE AMERICAS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE 1. (U) This is an Action Request (see para 3). 2. (U) On July 6, Embassy received a dip note from the MFA's Bureau of International Organizations requesting USG support for Panama's candidacy to the Management Committee of the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal at elections to take place during August 10 to 16 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The note states that the GOP is "interested in sharing experiences and collaborating in conjunction with activities and actions related to postal development, in plans, programs, and projects that are focused on reforms and modernization of postal services." PolOff will fax the note to Panama desk. 3. (U) Embassy would appreciate Department's advice if further action is required. WATT
