UNCLAS OTTAWA 002070 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: ECON, EFIN, ETRD, AMGT, OECD SUBJECT: OTTAWA: OECD DEMARCHE ON WORKING PARTY FOR GOVERNANCE REFORM REF: SECSTATE 120433 1. Amembassy Ottawa Econ section made the demarche requested in reftel to Wendy Clark of Foreign Affairs Canada's Economic Policy division on July 5, 2005, following up on previous telephone conversations with Ms. Clark about the Working Party for Governance Reform. Ms. Clark provided the following feedback on the points of the demarche: A) the GOC agrees with the United States on the importance of reform and would like to see a Working Group established in a timely fashion, B) the GOC approves of the concept of a timeline, noting that timely action for the 30-member group will be a challenge, and C) the GOC suggests that the role of the Chair will be critical and that the Chair needs to be motivated and committed to reform.
