US embassy cable - 05KUWAIT3041

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

SUBJECT: TFUK01: KUWAITI RESPONSE TO JULY 7 TERROR ATTACKS
IN LONDON

REF: SECSTATE 126055

1. (U) The Kuwaiti government was quick to publicly condemn
the July 7 attacks in London, reassert its commitment to the
global war on terror, and call for the immediate capture of
the perpetrators. Acting Prime Minister and Minister of
Defense Shaykh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah told the press, "Our
religion, Islam, and all faiths and human values are
rejecting these criminal ugly actions." (Note: Prime
Minister Shaykh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was in
the U.S. for a July 1 meeting with the President, had not
returned to Kuwait when the attacks occurred. End Note)
Speaker of Parliament Jassem Al-Khorafi said, "These
terrorist actions are contravening all human values and
principles" and "show the savageness of those behind them and
how distant they are from humanity and Islamic values and
morals." He added, "All of the Kuwaiti people strongly
condemn the attacks against the friendly, innocent people of
Britain, which stood by the Kuwaiti just cause in all ordeals
particularly the Iraqi invasion in 1990, and the recent
terrorist action in our own beloved country." Liberal MP
Mohammed Jassem Al-Sager and moderate Shi'a Islamist MP Dr.
Yousef Al-Zalzalah made similar comments.

2. (U) According to the press, Amir Shaykh Jaber Al-Ahmad
Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince Shaykh Saad Al-Abdullah
Al-Sabah, and the Prime Minister sent cables condemning the
four explosions and expressing condolences on the tragic loss
of life to Queen Elizabeth II and PM Tony Blair. Foreign
Minister Shaykh Dr. Mohammed Al-Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah also
denounced the attacks in a cable to British Foreign Secretary
Jack Straw.
