The Ambassador delivered the demarches (Refs A and B) to
Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar on June 30. The
Ambassador had previously delivered demarche to GOSL Foreign
Secretary H.M.G.S. Palihakkara on June 24 (Ref C) because FM
SIPDIS
Kadirgamar was abroad. FM Kadirgamar received the demarche
with interest and inquired what the US position was on the
"framework resolution". Kadirgamar also noted that Japan and
India were pressing for a vote on the framework resolution by
late July.
