The press reports that former Guantanamo detainee Nasser
Al-Mutairi, who was transferred to Kuwaiti custody January
15, 2005, was cleared June 29 of the charges of working for
the interests of a foreign country and those
serving it; not obtaining permission to join foreign military
forces opposed to another country; and undergoing illegal
weapons training (ref b). He had been released on bail April
13 for humanitarian reasons (ref a). According to reports,
the Kuwaiti Criminal Court cited insufficient evidence to
uphold the charges, but details of the ruling are not yet
available. The prosecution retains the right to appeal.
