UNCLAS MADRID 002391 SIPDIS DEPARTMENT PASS TO EUR/WE EB/TPP/MTA EB/TRA USTR PASS TO MATT RHODE E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: ETRD, SP, CTM SUBJECT: SPAIN: RESPONSE TO WCO FRAMEWORK DEMARCHE REF: STATE 94927 Econoff delivered reftel points on June 8 to Jose Maria Alvarez Gomez-Pallete, Subdirector General for International Relations, at the Spanish Customs Agency. Alvarez advised Econoff that reftel points would be passed directly to the Spanish Customs Director General. On June 21, Econoff followed up on reftel points with Alvarez. Alvarez said that Spain would support the proposed WCO Framework and that the Spanish Customs Director General had replied directly to the US Customs Director General via letter. Alvarez further said that he would provide Econoff with a copy of the letter confirming Spain's decision to support the WCO Framework. MANZANARES
