UNCLAS AMMAN 004583 SIPDIS STATE FOR OES/PCI SALZBERG, OES/PCI SHIPPE E.O. 12958:N/A TAGS: ECON, SENV, JO, UNCSD SUBJECT: JORDAN ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT WSSD WATER PARTNERSHIP REF: SECSTATE 151258 (U) Jordan's Ministers of Planning and Water "enthusiastically support" joining in a water partnership with the U.S. at the WSSD (reftel). The Jordanian National Higher Committee on Sustainable Development, headed by Minister of Planning Bassam Awadullah, is anxious to get further details on such a partnership, prior to the opening of WSSD. (U) We understand that the Jordanian delegation will be led by Minister of Planning Awadullah and will include Minister of Water Hazim el-Nasser as well as the Director of the General Corporation for Environmental Protection, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority, the Deputy Mayor of the Greater Municipality of Amman, and three NGO representatives.
