Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

C O N F I D E N T I A L AMMAN 004519 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 08/12/2007 TAGS: PHUM, JO, UNHRC SUBJECT: DEMARCHE ON CANDIDACY OF PROFESSOR RUTH WEDGWOOD DELIVERED TO JORDAN REF: STATE 150004 Classified By: Political Counselor Douglas Silliman. Reasons 1.5 (b,d) . 1. (U) On August 7, Poloff delivered reftel information on the candidacy of Professor Ruth Wedgwood to the Jordanian MFA. On August 12, Ayman Aamiri, Deputy Head of the MFA's International Organizations Department, and Samer Naber, MFA's Legal Advisor, told us that MFA has since conveyed all the information on Professor Wedgwood to its Mission in New York, where it will be further evaluated. Naber said that Professor Wedgwood is clearly qualified to serve on the UNHRC, but noted that Jordan will factor in other political considerations in deciding for whom to vote. We encourage USUN to contact the Jordanian Mission directly to underline the importance the USG attaches to the Wedgwood candidacy and encourage GOJ support. Gnehm
