US embassy cable - 05ROME1976

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. Mission received a May 17 response from FAO to our April
15 pledge letter regarding a CY 2005 voluntary contribution
of 180,000 dollars to the FAO National Forest Program
Facility. Text is as follows:

Excellency:

I have the honor to refer to your letter of 15 April 2005
concerning the pledge of U.S. $180,000 made by the United
States to the FAO National Forest Program Facility (NFPF)
for calendar year 2005. Regarding the two specific
questions concerning the funds pledged for the NFPF, please
find the requested information below:

a. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) has no plans for expenditure of US funds
under the NFPF in calendar year 2005 for Cuba, Iran, Libya,
Myanmar, North Korea, Syria nor the Palestine Liberation
Organization, nor entities associated with it.

b. Total contribution expected from other donors to the
NFPF amount to U.S. $2,281,000. If a United States
contribution of U.S. $180,000 is received, then the United
States percentage of the total received would be seven
percent.

I wish to express my appreciation of the pledge of funds
made by the United States as a contribution towards the
NFPF. The banking details requested for the payment are
