US embassy cable - 05BANGKOK3846

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (C) On the margins of an MFA briefing on the recent OIC
visit to Thailand (septel) the chief of the MFA's ASEAN
Affairs Policy Section, Suriya Chindawongse, pulled poloff
aside to discuss North Korea (DPRK). Suriya repeated remarks
made during recent high-level U.S./Thai meetings (reftels)
that the RTG remained "seriously interested" in playing a
mediating or helpful role in international efforts to return
the DPRK to the Six-Party Talks. Suriya said that the Thai
delegation to the June 28 ASEAN-U.S. dialogue in Washington
would raise the issue again during bilateral meetings with
senior U.S. officials.
