Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS ABU DHABI 002512 SIPDIS SENSITIVE DEPARTMENT FOR IO/UNP AND NEA/ARPI E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, UN, TC SUBJECT: UAEG REQUESTS INFORMATION ON U.S. POSITION ON G-4 DRAFT PROPOSAL ON UN REFORM 1. (U) This is an action request. Please see para 3. 2. (SBU) In a June 6 meeting, MFA International Organizations Director Yacoub Al-Hosani asked Econchief if the Embassy could provide him with any information on the U.S. position with regard to the draft G-4 resolution on UN reform. Al-Hosani said that he had seen the positions of other "key players" in UN reform, but was piecing together the U.S. position from news reports and Department of State press events. Al-Hosani added that he had read that the U.S. said that it planned to come out with its position shortly. He said that the UAE would be attending the G-77 ministerial and summit in Qatar from June 12-16 and it would be useful for the UAE to know the U.S. position in order to see where it could find common ground. He added that the information would also help the GCC formulate its position on the G-4 draft. According to Al-Hosani, his colleagues and superiors have been expressing a high level of interest in the U.S. position. 3. (U) Action request: Please provide us any information that we can share with the UAEG on this subject. The delegation will be leaving for Doha on Saturday, June 11. Al-Hosani asked that, if at all possible, we provide the information before the Thursday-Friday local weekend. SISON
