UNCLAS ATHENS 001445 SIPDIS FOR OES/OA ELIZABETH TIRPAK E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: TPHY, PREL, GR SUBJECT: GREECE SEEKS MEMBERSHIP ON IOC EXECUTIVE COUNCIL The D1 Directorate of U.N. and International Organizations and Conferences within the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sought USG support for its candidacy for membership to the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). BEGIN TEXT: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to all Embassies and Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Hellenic Republic, and has the honor to inform them that the Government of Greece has already submitted its candidature for membership to the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), at the elections, which will be (sic) take place during the 23rd Session of the IOC Assembly, to be held in Paris from 21-30 June 2005. Proving actively its attachment to the principles and priorities of the IOC, by supporting and participating to all IOC activities, inter alia by hosting the 4th Meeting of IOC Advisory Body of Experts on the Law of the Sea (IOC/ABE-LOS IV) in Lefkada island, in May 2004, and by contributing to the extra budgetary effort towards the organization of the current's year (sic) respective meeting held last April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the honor to request the valuable support of the Governments of the IOC Member States to its candidature. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs avails itself of this opportunity to renew to all Embassies and Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Hellenic Republic the assurances of its highest consideration.
